The golden age of tuna fishing
The tuna fishery remained in operation until the late 19th century, when the waters off Vendicari teemed with life and bluefin tuna was caught using traditional methods, processed on site and preserved in oil. The complex comprised warehouses, ovens, accommodation for the tuna fishermen and processing areas. Today, all that remains are the stone structures and the pillars that create perfect perspectives, overlooking the blue horizon.
