At the heart of the village lie the remains of the ancient Marzamemi tuna fishery, one of the most important in the Mediterranean. Now converted into a cultural venue and event space, the tuna fishery bears witness to the village’s deep-rooted identity: that of a community bound to the sea, to seasonal work and to a spirit of sharing. A living legacy that is reflected in the food, the stories and the everyday routines.
The beating heart of Marzamemi is its square overlooking the sea: simple, spacious, full of life, framed by low-rise houses, little restaurants, shops and soft lighting. Here, you can enjoy lunch al fresco, raise a glass at sunset, and listen to the sound of a guitar amongst friends. The narrow streets wind quietly towards the small harbour, where the fishermen’s boats bob gently and the landscape opens out onto the infinite.
